I see why you prefer the black and white version of this one. To me, it looks like an old plate print because there is almost a parchment texture beneath the image, I'm assuming from the filters you used. This lends it a mysterious, otherworldly quality.
I'd love to go there, to feel the uneven path beneath my feet and smell the scent of the air. Paths that lead to nowhere are often most worth traveling because they provide a place for the imagination to play, and as you step off into the unstructured ending, there is so much to discover and appreciate.
Thank you very much for your kind words about this picture, my friend! I really prefer this one... I think it's more intense and profound than the other one...
Oh, I'm enjoying wandering through your gallery a few images at a time, so more comments will gradually drip into your inbox. I have to be careful, though, because I could appreciate all day and not get anything done at home. *grin*
Well, I use a Photoshop plugin (ContrastMaster) to get this kind of effects, because my camera is a simple ACER CL-5300 and I'm a total amateur... And I agree with you, there are some parts that have much contrast, but I feel that in general, it isn't so bad , but I'm glad for your comment... that's how I learn...
Not sure if photoshop has a simple way to chose what to pick while desaturating, you may try to play with that setting to dim a bit the overall effect (or if the contrastmaster could be dimmed by itself you may try this way).
Your choice of subjects and frame is quite good but overusing postproc plugins make the picture quite artefact (aka "fake") and it's a pity

it feels like it has too much contrast
